What is the admissions support group?

The Admissions Support Group is what the name says, it is a support group where students support students, receive feedback on their college application, come together to discuss the concerns/stress they are facing during the admissions cycle, and learn more about admissions/the first-year college experience.

Step 2

Complete the intake form

We will open up the intake form on August 31st. We will use this intake form to accept students into the group all year. We have already created our Early Admissions Admissions Support Group. To be considered for future groups please fill out our intake form. Prospective members will be invited to an open session and any public event with Higher Education/Admissions Officers. During the open sessions, students will work collectively on their applications, provide feedback, and we get to know any prospective member so we can determine if they are the right fit. After the open session, a decision will be made as to whether a student is a right fit for an admissions support group or 1-on-1 admissions consulting and sent to the student as well as the parent/guardian/caretaker.

To be invited to an open session please put sign up for email alerts above AND fill out the intake form below.

We will have open sessions throughout the months of November & December.

March-June 2022

Financial aid and scholarship support group(s) will be available for students who are facing obstacles with enrolling at a college, who may need to switch colleges, and/or who need assistance appealing financial aid decisions. Students who have participated in the Early Admissions and General Admissions support group(s) will be automatically invited to participate.

expectations for participants

  • Commit: Attend as many sessions as possible. We understand things happen but if you are chronically absent then you may lose your spot and you may not be invited to additional events

  • Contribute: Be an active participant in whatever way you can. We need students willing to make an impact and help shape the group into what it needs to be.

  • Build: For this group to work we need students to build connections with one another. There are times where students have texted one another to keep them encouraged, helped them complete the application they want to give up on, encouraged them to try a follow-up email when the first financial aid question was not answered. There are students who have helped other students develop a strong essay in a breakout room. This group thrives on connections and we need participants willing to build them

  • Participate: We are looking for students who are willing to help other students. While Jenn the Tutor runs the group and reviews essays, short answers, etc. There will be times you will be expected to give feedback on other essays

  • Give not just Take: The easiest way to explain this is like this, if the only time you show up to the support group is when you need help and you do not help others, you will not be successful in this group

  • Disclose: To be in the best position to serve students we need them to keep us updated on every college they are accepted into and how much financial aid/merit aid/scholarships are offered. Students’ offers and financial aid will not be shared in the group but Jenn the Tutor keeps track of this information so she can be in a better position to serve students, especially in the financial aid appeals process. We use this information to identify any financial aid disparities and track successful applications/trends at particular colleges for future cohorts.

  • Be Visible: Part of the reason this group is successful is we are visible on social media. We are able to attract new colleges/universities looking for students, locate scholarships and fund our scholarship participants. The things we tend to publicize for the 2021-2022 cohort include their participation in the group, acceptances, enrollment. In addition, we, at times, have media requests for student interviews or requests for students to participate in admissions panels for admissions officers. We do not force anyone to participate in these opportunities but do encourage participation.
